A Practical Guide To Organize Your Mind At Any Age


The human mind is a mind-blowing organ. It is because it can acquire a huge amount of information, and organize it faster than supercomputers.

Although the human brain has so much power and potential, it has natural shortcomings. For example, thinking errors and biases, and destructive impulses. Commonly, it is known that the amygdala in the brain drives unproductive impulses. However, the frontal part of the brain also known as the prefrontal cortex helps one to manage those impulses. Hence, with practice, the brain learns to organize itself properly. 

There are multiple ways that you can consciously use to organize mind course or improve your learning. This is part of one’s self-regulated strategy development. It also helps in making a self-growth plan. 

  1. Avoid Multitasking

Physiologically speaking, it is impossible for humans to multi-task. People can suffer from serious consequences such as low productivity, more anxiety, unmet goals, more mistakes, and interruptions. Naturally, the multitasking that humans can do is communicating and breathing. Complex tasks like learning a new skill, writing documents, and cooking require you to focus. After some time of practicing this strategy, one sees significant self-confidence improvement.

  1. Keep To-Do Lists 

Our brain has a fast calculation speed but it is still short on some mental resources. The benefit of lists and organizers is that they free up the mind and allow it to attend to new information easily. 

The lists and organizers work properly because they resemble the functioning of the mind and the brain. Our brain and the mind like organization, categories, certainty, and clarity, and such written reminders help with it. Hence, they are one of the best tools to organize your mind.

  1. Maintain a Disconnection

When technological advancement happened, it took everybody under its influence. Experts believe that technological addiction is the same as drug dependence. Using social media can also affect our mental health, and weak health can influence our learning ability deeply.Furthermore, cognitive overload is a serious issue that came with access to information through the internet. The fun part is that it can be practiced in the morning or afternoon, or evening or night. During a meditation session, the focus is shifted to one’s breath. Daniel Goleman said that mindfulness meditation is not about getting rid of thoughts but about focusing on one thing. If one’s mind gets distracted, it does not mean that the meditation session did not work. Bringing the mind back after distraction is the purpose of the exercise. 

  1. Take Small Breaks

With everything competing for our attention, it becomes difficult to maintain focus and energy levels. Looking from this point of view, the human mind is similar to a computer. It becomes difficult to work with high productivity the whole day in a fast-paced working environment. A simple solution is to take mini-breaks (10-15 minutes) after working for an hour and a half. It not only refreshes the energy levels but also improves the quality of focus. 

  1. Enhance Sleep Quality

With a plethora of research, scientific literature brought attention to it and presented it as an important functioning of the brain. In case, one does not get enough sleep, they experience issues e.g. focus, balance, memory, and stability of emotions. For further improvement in tackling emotions, one can take part in any emotional intelligence course. If somebody struggles with anger, they can take any anger management course. 

Generally speaking, scientists have concluded that on average a human body needs 6-7 hours of sleep. The hours change depending upon the age group, for instance, teenagers require 8 hours of sleep, school children need 9 hours and newborn babies require 12-14 hours of it for proper functioning.
